It's that time of the year again. Yup, Borneo Cultural Festival 2008(BCF) is on from 27 Jun - 5 July at Sibu Town Square. The main stage programmes will start from 3 July and will feature cultural performances from Indonesia, Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Mukah. A smaller and less grander fest compared to previous years but nevertheless this year's BCF is packed with activities from the 3 main cultures for the otherwise sleepy town. No, I won't call Sibu a dead or stagnant town; sleepy is sufficient. :P

Being the 'kepoh' I sometimes am, I had to drag my family along to the opening night. First thing I saw of interest was the fleet of car-woofers. Packed with audio and visual equipment, these boxes were blasting to the maximum capacity, attracting a curious crowd of onlookers.
Across the road sited on the piece of vacant land was the Trade Exhibition where tens of stalls have been set up. Taking the centre stage was a fashion show featuring the 'in' hair styles. Couldn't get any pics coz my N80 was too lousy to do the job. Even the ones shown here are bad. :( Wait till I save enough to get a better camera fon or a digicam. Whee-ha! Can't afford anything luxurious and don't want anything too bulky. Any suggestion?

Going around the Tradex, nothing seemed to interest me. Telecommunication, marine equipment, health and beauty care, fashion, automobiles, endless food stalls, yada yada.. A lady handed me a leaflet encouraging me to go on a tour. Yeah right! At a time like this when we should be careful in our spending. No frills or thrills sista! After splashing RM10 on the kids' balloons (Not me! It's the hubby! It's ok wat, once in a blue moon mah.. makes the kids go over the moon), we crossed the road and went back to the town square.

The stalls were marvellously and extravagantly decorated so I had to take a pic of this one.

This one sells my favourite bbq minced meat or dried meat or bak kua but I had to restrain from buying any coz lately I've been getting daily dizzy spells and upon a medical check up, my bp was 160/100. Bloody h...

So, like it or not, I had to settle for these cooling and healthy snacks. Pun intended.

And to satisfy the sweet tooth, I squeezed these in as well. :)

And oh.. as I was drooling over the bak kua I couldn't have, to my surprise, there was a loud explosion. Upon checking, it was just the fireworks display lighting up the sky, indicating the opening of the BCF 2008.
