The parking area was blessed with a scenic spot where one could see the Lanang Bridge towering over the mighty Rejang River.

We took our seats at the table closest to the entrance to enjoy the evening air and ordered deer meat stir fried with ginger and fresh chillies, butter fried prawns in curry leaves, pork in salted fish and dried chillies, mixed vegetables and mushrooms and sea cucumber soup (not in pic).

As we were talking and enjoying the food and fellowship, suddenly someone squealed (hardly in delight), as he saw something green moving in one of the dishes. OMG!!! It was so alive!!!

Naturally, we signalled to a waitress who promptly brought the dish to the back without uttering anything. We waited, contemplating what would be their next course of action...and waited...and waited...and finally a different waitress appeared with this...

Oops...somebody dug in before I could snap the pic. Anyway, the waitress mentioned that those were compliments from the boss. We waited some more for a freshly prepared dish in lieu of the contaminated one but it never came. Finally, 3 of us went to the cashier to pay up and to seek clarification.
Can you imagine, the cashier (presumably the taukeh-neo) coolly told us our bill totalled RM72.20 (minus the 'contaminated dish') without any mention of the 'incident'? Only when we queried why there wasn't a replacement or even a reorder did she explain that she did tell her waitress but apparently the latter didn't carry out her instructions. Her lackadaisical attitude prompted further dissatisfaction in us. Was she taking us for fools?
We would have settled for an apology or a simple explanation but none of that happened. Don't think for a second that the jellies could do the job. If they were sincere, one of them (not any waitress for that matter!) could have walked over to our table and be apologetic. After listening to our expressions of disappointment, finally the taukeh-neo apologized and further deducted our bill to RM50.00. Although that was not our intention, we decided that it was the best they could offer at that point. I was ashamed for suggesting that place for dinner last night. Fortunately, the gang didn't put the blame on me but still I'm bothered by it. :-(

It's not your fault, Coral.. but definitely not a place you want to visit again, right? A big EUW for that moving thingy... euw euw!
Wah, such a diplomatic post!
It was a live, wriggly, springy, hairy green worm having a feast of the lettuce and prawns!
The waitress took away the plate of wormy prawns, without a word of apology, or an indication of their next course of action.
We waited & waited, in the end, decided to call it a day and approached the counter for an explanation and apology b4 paying the bill (if any).
The taukeh neo nonchalantly said, "We are not charging for the prawns". No apology, no remorse, not a tinge of regret. It seems live hairy worms in their food are casual, daily occurences! Like, "oh, the food is too salty?" or "oh, our kampua are sold out".
Or "oh, the live worm with prawns is our newest dish by our newly flown in Thai chef. Oh, u didn't order that? Should try, good stuff".
Only when I raised my voice about their unacceptable service did she say, "But, I did ask the waitress to ask whether or not you would like a replacement." Ya, right, delegate damage control to your lowest paid waitress.
Clearly, this restaurant regards their customers as country bumpkins who accept worms, insects, human hair, fingernails etc as part of their garnishing for food.
The last time I went there, back in 2002 or 2003 when they were at the end of Lanang Road, the steamed fish I ordered came out partly raw and hard. I was embarassed, as I was entertaining guests.
Dine there at your own horror, or adventure ;)
Melbie, you're right. It's not my fault and it's definitely not a place I'd want to visit again. EUWWWWWWW..
LOL Ben, you should start your own blog asap. Angry but funny at the same time...
I've heard about that place but I wouldn't bother to go...cos its' far...and it's not air-conditioned...and ur photos of the dishes certainly don't "turn me on"...and reading about ur umpleasant experience is the last nail in the coffin! I'll never go there ever!!! And that has caused ur case of food poisoning today, I guess?...3 persons, should go to Ruby!!! For RM50, you'll get a much nicer meal....(RM70 over is a bit too much for 3 persons!!!!)
P.S.: Hi Ben! Never go and comment in my blog? Sob! Sob!
